The Importance Of Having a QA Engineering Team

With all the cost cutting measures of late, many companies are just pleased to have a QA Team on staff or available for their test needs. One of the best "bang for the buck" QA team structures that I've seen has been to have a QA Engineering team or at least a QA Engineer available.

Setting Up a Business Network May Not Be Enough

Many non-IT businesses, and even some IT related businesses concern themselves with the technical issues of their network when they initially set up their network and again only when they have a problem with their network or infrastructure or have a breach in their security.

Rethinking Software Development - Reducing Bugs Now

One of the primary goals of every project manager, QA manager, and development manager is to reduce the number of bugs that are going to be in the final shipped product and to potentially bring that number as close to zero as possible.

Lady Gaga Kills The Cloud - What Does This Mean for Amazon Cloud Drive, EC2, andOther Cloud Services

Leave it to Lady Gaga to take Amazon's servers down to a crawl or a complete standstill. Yesterday Amazon offered Lady Gaga's Born This Way album for a mere 99 cents as compared to its $11.99 price for the standard album. The only problem is that Amazon's servers were so overwhelmed that some users are complaining that even 10 hours later they still only have some of their songs downloaded or worse can't even connect to Amazon's servers.

Observations In Effective Software Development - Part 3 – Functional and TechnicalSpecifications

This is the best, most optimal scenario that one could ever hope for... and that is all functional/UI and technical specifications are comprehensive and finalized before any programming or testing is started. This approach may sound like something straight out of a science fiction movie, and it very well may be what we can only dream about... however it would really be nice if this could be a reality when designing a software product. Since this has never been experienced by anyone that I know, including myself, I can only envision what this might entail.

Observations In Effective Software Development - Part 2 – Functional and TechnicalSpecifications

Imagine product designers and business analysts sitting around a conference room table. All of them congratulating each other on the great work they've all done in creating all the requirements that go into a functional specification document that their new, brilliant, cutting-edge software will be based upon going forward from this point on. The concept has been summarized and all the pieces are in place... right down to the finest details that will make this product the best thing since sliced bread.

Observations In Effective Software Development - Part 1 – Functional Specifications – Where are they?

It seems like only yesterday that my involvement in software testing/quality assurance adventures began, but in reality it has been well over 20 years! It has been a slow, winding journey through many various types of software including video colorization tools, entertainment CD-ROMs, video-on-demand applications, animated 3D shopping apps, chat rooms, educational CD-ROMs, disk utilities, web sites and visualization/prototyping tools.

Does Your Organization Need To Emulate the YouTube Instant Creator?

YouTube Instant creator Feross Aboukhadijeh, created his amazing solution in just under three hours of coding, and then worked on the UI for a few more hours and the next day posted his work to his Facebook page. If you haven't already done so, take a look at YouTube Instant, it's an application that solves the problem of effectively and instantly searching YouTube in a fun way. What's better than starting to type your search term and have YouTube Instant almost immediately load the closest corresponding videos while you are honing down your search term?

Deploying a new website or application?

You may have thought about general testing, but have you thought about all the other things that can make your product or service a success?

This list of questions covers the types of testing that must be considered to ensure a quality product:

1. Design Validation - Statements regarding coverage of the feature design - including both specification and development documents. Will testing review design? Is design an issue on this release? How much concern does testing have regarding design, etc. etc..
